England OVERVIEW 
England's finest moment came in the 1966 FIFA World Cup. A Geoff Hurst hat-trick secured the sports founders their first and up to now only World Cup Final success. They have never progressed beyond the semi-finals since then, the closest they came was in 1990 where they crashed out to Germany on penalties. As with every international tournament, England fans truly believe that success will again come their way but 2006 could possibly be the year with the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney amongst a multi talented squad in their ranks.

England occupies all of the island east of Wales and south of Scotland, other divisions of the island of Great Britain. Wayne Rooney Many believe that if England are to win the World Cup in Germany, then they will have to mainly depend on the sensational skills of their 20 year-old striker. The Manchester United ace has arguably become his countries most influential and important player (saying something when you consider England also have David Beckham, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in their ranks). A player who has been likened to another Manchester United legend, George Best, Rooney will hope he can help lead his country to their second FIFA World Cup Finals truimph. Strong, quick, skillful and with a great football brain, his fans sing 'There's only one Wayne Rooney', opposition defences will be glad that this is the case. |
